Purpose:
Evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria on moderately complex projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Direction:
- Receive broad guidance regarding overall key objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters, as well as broad parameters for execution.
- Receive direction as needed, particularly on highly complex assignments.
- Independently apply extensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields.
- Review work produced by staff for quality assurance.
At the Operational and Company Level:
- Assist in marketing the firm's capabilities to establish new clients and enhance relationships with existing clients.
- Collaborate closely with professionals from other disciplines on multi-discipline projects.
Do the Work:
- Utilize advanced techniques, theoretical principles, and practices in the field of civil engineering and related sciences and disciplines.
- Serve as a liaison between clients and agencies, subcontractors, and design teams to address complex project issues.
- Make design recommendations, adaptations, and modifications.
- Plan, schedule, conduct, and/or coordinate detailed phases of assigned project work.
- Undertake complex or innovative assignments that require the development of new or improved civil engineering techniques or procedures to create new or refined equipment, materials, processes, or methods.
- Perform design work using computer-aided or manual drafting techniques.
- Prepare reports and correspondence regarding project direction.
- Conduct field investigations or inspections.
- Conduct constructability reviews or assist in the design, planning, and review of other civil engineering projects.
- Review plans and prepare/review technical specifications, contract documents, and estimates.
Education, Work Experience, Licensure/Certifications, and Technical Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field is required.
- PE license is strongly preferred.
- Five or more years of experience in civil engineering, land development industry, or related industry experience strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated proficiency with computer applications and civil engineering design software such as Civil3D.
- Familiarity with reading construction plans.
- Basic understanding of financial reports and metrics.
- Data analysis and interpretation skills.
- Thorough understanding of business and financial principles in a consulting business.
- Must hold a valid state driver's license and successfully pass a motor vehicle check.
Physical Demands and Working Environment:
- Primarily an indoor professional office environment with possible variations in light, noise, fumes, odors, and traffic.
- Mobility is required around the office environment.
- Some work may take place outdoors, and exposure to outside weather conditions, varying temperatures, excessive noise, and potential hazards may occur.
- Mobility required around job/construction sites, including walking, bending, crawling, climbing, squatting, kneeling, and wearing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Frequent and prolonged use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
- Occasional lifting or carrying of up to 20 pounds.
- Occasional pushing or pulling of up to 20 pounds.
- Occasional reaching outward or above shoulder level.
